Fuega Dance

A milonga alternative

Downside Up · 12820 N 19th Ave, Phoenix

First step onto the red carpet.

RSVP — $10 About the Venue Flyer (PDF)

The Night

This is the first public Fuega Dance. A milonga alternative — tango and related dancing to music outside the traditional tango canon. All-alternative mix throughout: jazz, soul, rock, edgy contemporary, and tango nuevo. DJ set curated around danceability, not category.

Come with a partner or come alone. Watch first. Ask someone to dance. The room is built for low-pressure connection — Downside Up is a non-alcoholic night café, which keeps the energy steady.

Inside, climate-controlled. Polished concrete floor, warm lights, real bar, a proper dance space. Phoenix can hit 92°F outside; we’re staying cool and dancing.

Hosted by Brady Hugins with Aniessa and Gail, who own and operate Downside Up.

The Vibe

A taste of what we play

The May 1 Fuega playlist — jazz, soul, edgy contemporary, and Latin-influenced rock. May 15 builds on this with attendee requests + new finds.

Have a song in mind? Drop a request — we add new tracks to our library and weave them in.

10:00 — 10:30 PM

The Last 30 Minutes — Flower Dances

From 10 to 10:30, we play the biggest songs of the night. If someone caught your eye on the floor, this is the moment to bring them a rose or flower.

Bring one if you have one — or just bring the moment.

$5 off entry when you bring flowers. The Fuega tradition.

Walk Up, or RSVP Ahead

14 people RSVP'd so far.

Doors open 7:30 PM at Downside Up. $10 cash or card at the door.

No RSVP required — but if you do, it helps us plan the mix. Either way, see you on the floor. Optional: share songs you want to dance to — we don't do song requests night of, but we do add the new songs to our library and create dynamic sets with our curated lists.
